Grand Theft Auto V Wrap-Up
I full on love Grand Theft Auto V. I love all GTA games starting at III and up.
So, literally everyone is talking about this game. Blogging, reviewing, writing, tweeting, updating, shouting from rooftops..... you get my point. I've seen people complain that, "other games with smaller budgets don't get this kind of coverage, so it's not fair, and that GTA doesn't deserve the praise." Those people are what I like to call, "bitter dicks."
In "other games" you can't randomly drive past an armored truck on your way to do story mission, and proceed to rob it. Seriously, I was grabbing a car to drive somewhere, when an in-game prompt came up to let me know that the armored truck guards were ripe for the picking. It also suggested I blow off the back door, and not destroy the truck. I got $5,000 GTA bucks. Thanks game! Organizing heists, delivering sacrifices to cults, and 3 separate story lines that all intersect, this is just a small part of this massive game.
This is why, you whiny Internet kids, GTA V gets oral pleasure from everyone who reviews it. You can get into this game and play it any way you like. That is what I love the most about this series. The only reason I am not playing it at this exact moment, is because I have small children, and I don't want them to see all of the horrible things in this game that make it great (Strip clubs, murder, hardcore torture).
The thing that I think makes this experience great, is the "ADD 'do whatever you want'," aspect to these games, and GTA V is the best yet. I've played for roughly 10 hours and I'm only about a third of the way through the story. You can just run around and explore, finding random things/money. There was a cable car on the top of a mountain. After taking it to the top, I was able steal a dirt bike and immediately attempt an amazing jump off of the top. It was an amazing death, but now all I want to do is drive a dirt bike at high speeds on the top of a mountain range.
The ocean is massive. It seems like they've put a lot of work into it. With the swimming abilities pumped up, you can now don a scuba suit and explore the detailed ocean floor. Downside is, you spend too much time down there, you will be eaten by a shark.
From the middle of the desert to downtown Los Santos, this game is a living environment, with thousands of opportunities to waste your life, and have your friends and family "very concerned" about you.
All of that stuff I just said, that isn't even what I'm most excited about. GTA online is the real game changer here. This aspect of the game will not be released until Oct 1st, but it already boasts over 500 co-op missions, all of which are playable on the actual game map, supporting up to 16 players. Oh yeah, it is also free for anyone who owns GTA V. Hanging out with your friends online, gathering supplies for a massive heist, maybe giving a rival gang some grief, I can't wait. I have told my wife that I am cashing in some favors that day, locking myself in my room for 3-4 hours, and getting my friends together to wage gang wars online against 13 year old kids. She couldn't be happier with her decision to marry a nerd.
When online console gaming first started becoming a thing back in 2000 (Sega Dreamcast), this was the day I dreamed about. Now that a coop game like this is in sight, I can't wait. My wife is ready to punch me, because at any point in the day I will just start talking GTA V.
Now, I know that people reading this (all 5 of you) are probably like, "Hey, you can't gush about this game having only completed about a third of it, you haven't even finished the story." The thing is, I don't want to finish. I played GTA IV off and on, right up to the day before I bought V. There are hundreds of things to do, not to mention just driving around and causing trouble.
One of the greatest aspects of this new game, to me, will be the downloadable content. There are a lot of people out there who hate the idea of DLC, because developers use it to sell content that is either on the disc of the game, or being developed before the game is even released. For the most part, it is usually pretty lame. This is where GTA is different. A lot of those other developers are selling you 75-80% of a game, then selling you the rest at a later date, for much more than you should be paying for 1-2 hours of content. GTA V is the equivalent of 150% of one of those games, with no DLC even being talked about, other than the free online portion. They put time and effort into that stuff, making it worth the purchase. If Rockstar Games does anything like the two, well timed out, DLC packs for GTA IV, the DLC for GTA V will be what keeps me playing my 360, well after the release of XB-ONE.
Grand Theft Auto V is gaming at its finest, so get out there and play it, because it is worth the hype! Also, join GUYZBOYZ on Xbox 360 if you want to have fun online, because it will be the coolest gang around!
(probably not.)
