A.D.D. Report: The Return!
It's been a long time, I shouldn't of left you!
The NBA season is over and we have new champions. I'm glad the Spurs won, but I wish they didn't win in 5 games. It made basketball end earlier than it needed to. So now it's on to what is suppose to be a historic draft. A lot of teams are working the phones hard to acquire a 1st round pick in this draft (i.e New York) while other teams are trying to gauge what they can get for their picks (i.e Chicago).
Speaking of Chicago, they are in an interesting position. They own 2 picks in the 1st round and they are trying to acquire either Carmelo Anthony through free agency or Kevin Love via trade. They need the draft picks for the Love trade but there is another option no one seems to be talking about. The Chicago Bulls know injury almost better than any other team in the league. When they signed free agent Carlos Boozer, he got injured before the season even started. Joakim Noah has battled foot injuries. Their superstar Derrick Rose has missed their last 2 seasons because an injury. Injury happens to everyone. One of the worst things that could happen is if they get either Love or Anthony catch the injury bug.
I think they should think about depth oppose to a one superstar savior. The Bulls have talked to the Orlando Magic about acquiring Arron Afflalo. I think they should just build upon players like this and work towards being the deepest team in the league. Afflalo provides defense and 3pt shooting. Another player that provides those attributes is Trevor Ariza. I think him coming off the bench behind Jimmy Butler would be really helpful to this team because Butler wouldn't have to play a lot of minutes, which he does now.
The Bulls missed Nate Robinson's spark off the bench, so signing him again should be a priority (Update: Nate Robinson opted back in with the Denver Nuggets). Another person they should consider is Chandler Parsons from the Houston Rockets. Parsons is a nice piece to add to a team but the Bulls should do this just for revenge purposes. The Rockets, a few years ago, signed the Bulls' backup center Omer Asik to a contract that was constructed to be too rich for the Bulls' blood. They pulled a dick move so now I say "an eye for an eye." The Bulls should sign Parsons to an offer sheet that makes the Rockets sweat and messes up their plans to sign Carmelo Anthony. It would mess up the Bulls getting Carmelo but this plan would be in effect after the Bulls decide for depth oppose to gutting the team to sign ONE guy.
There are enough guys via free agency or through trades that could have the Bulls right back at the top of the East. A lot of people say amnesty Carlos Boozer but I don't think that is wise. Boozer is an expiring contract this year. Those contracts are valuable, especially around the trade deadline. The Bulls should be able to find him a new home. Hell, before the start of last season, the Toronto Raptors tried to acquire him from the Bulls. I think they should try to convince a team like the Charlotte Hornets, who needs a power forward and another veteran. Boozer has all-star and Olympic gold medal experience, plus lots of playoff experience for a team who just made the playoffs for the second time last year under their new ownership.
I just like the Bulls' assets: expiring contracts, multiple first round draft picks, the next big foreign thing, and two young studs in Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson. This draft is gonna be historic with surprise picks and unexpected trades. It's gonna be so good that it brought me out of my writing hiatus. Otherwise I would of MAYBE written about how much better the WWE has gotten with their infusion of young talent, especially Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins...but I digress.
