Quality music seems to be coming out at a feverish rate lately. Maybe artists are trying to make that last ditch effort to get a summer anthem on the airwaves (yeah, like Robin Thicke would ever allow that). Whatever it may be, I like it. and I hope it continues. Once again, my lazy ass doesn't feel like producing 8 separate posts for the heat I discovered this week, so I lumped them all in one. Enjoy.
Normally I wouldn't promote anything from Ike Turner Jr., but his voice sounds really distorted on the hook, so I was able to fool my conscious into letting my post this song. King Push once again comes through with bars, bars, and more bars. The G.O.O.D Music camp does it again
The LOX - Summers Too Hot
Do I really have to persuade you to listen? It's Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, & Styles P...press play dummy!
The Yancy Boys ft. Common & Dezi Paige - Quicksand (produced by J Dilla)
Illa J of the upstart Detroit duo, The Yancy Boys, is picking up where his older brother, the late great J Dilla, left off. Common on the track, a deceased legend on the beat, all you need is a cold beer and some sunshine and its a perfect day.
Mario - Fatal Distraction
Mario is one of those R&B singers that has seemed to have spent the majority of his career being overshadowed by those less talented yet more marketable. I have always been a fan of Mario because he sticks to the basics and just sings a song, and sings it well. This is just another example of that.
The Foreign Exchange - Call It Home
Phonte and Nicolay, Their sound is so refreshing. Their eighties influence is real. Who says all rappers who also sing have to be bitches, Drake? Phonte is second to only Cee-Lo in this category.
Rapper Big Pooh ft. Jared Evan - Happy Birthday
I guess Pooh said if his former Little Brother tag team partner is going to make the list, he's gonna get on the list too. Two very under appreciated performers in their respective fields unite on this smooth track. This is the equivalent of a cool breeze on a hot summer day.
Jordan Bratton - The Grey
This gentleman is new to me, so I don't have much to say other than I like this track a lot, and you should too.
Eminem - Bezerk (produced by Rick Rubin & Dr. Dre)
My final discovery this week comes from the one and only Mr. Marshall Mathers. I mean the man sought out the reclusive Rick Rubin and teamed him with the good Doctor D-R-E to create something somewhat different from what Slim Shady usually does. It kind of sounds like it could be his personal homage to the Beastie Boys. I'm sure MCA is in the clouds enjoying this tribute.
You're welcome.
