Welcome to another edition of Poof. This week's subject is none other than the ivory Canadian reggae man, Snow. Yeah, you heard me, Snow. I bet you didn't think you would hear that name mentioned outside of a cheesy VH-1 nostalgia/countdown shows about forgotten fads from the '90s. Let's begin, shall we.
Born under the name Darrin O'Brien on October 30, 1969 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Snow had an early love for reggae and dancehall music. Unlike Drake, Snow really started from the bottom, being raised in Allenbury Housing Projects. At age 19 Snow started dj-ing and performing at house parties. Soon he was being mentored by Jamaican-born local dj, DJ Marvin Prince, who also gave him the Snow moniker, which was an acronym for Super Notorious Outrageous Whiteboy (gotta love acronyms).
MC Shan, who was still reeling from KRS-One's career killing KO known as The Bridge is Over, got a hold of Snow's material and liked what he heard from the un-chocolate reggae singer and decided to co-produce Snow's debut album, 12 Inches of Snow. The album's release was delayed, due to Snow doing a short stint in a Canadian prison for an assault charge (can you say "street cred"). Shan even appeared on the lead single, the heavily rotated Informer. This song was a huge hit, and 12 Inches of Snow went platinum. Snow's next album also went platinum...in Japan, and his next 4 albums after that went wood.
Synopsis: After "Informer" ran out it's welcome on radio stations, Snow tried to drop some more shit that wasn't successful and nobody heard, blah, blah, blah... Listen, the only reason I wrote this is because I
Look below for a little Informer refresher. You're welcome.
Easily one of the worst songs in the history of music.
